PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device that can properly adjust the gray balance matching the human visual characteristics without the need for remarkable increase in a lookup table and to provide a gray balance adjustment method. SOLUTION: The image display device is provided with a lookup table 20A as a multi-dimensional lookup table that specifies a cross-reference between a uniform color space and a 3-color representation system where reference values are defined at a prescribed grating interval as to a color space of a prescribed range and with a gray use lookup table 20G where reference values are defined at a grating interval smaller than the prescribed grating interval as to a gray area in the color space. In the case of conducting color conversion of the gray area, the gray use lookup table 20G is referenced. Since the reference values are defined at the smaller grating interval, the color conversion accuracy in the gray area enhanced.
