MAGNETO-OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM AND RECORDING/ REPRODUCING METHOD TO USE THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To add a pseudo-function not to alter the contents to a magneto-optical recording medium. SOLUTION: This magneto-optical recording medium has a recording layer for keeping a magnetic recording domain and such a record-auxiliary layer that the magnetization is not inverted when recording and reproducing are carried out with respect to the recording layer. An initializing magnetic field Hini is applied to this magneto- optical recording medium beforehand to form an initialized state that the direction of the magnetization at sub-lattice of transition metal in the recording layer is made mutually opposite to that of the magnetization at sub-lattice of transition metal in the record-auxiliary layer and an interfacial magnetic wall is formed between the recording layer and the record-auxiliary layer. The magneto-optical recording medium is then irradiated with recording light according to an information signal to form a recording state that the direction of the magnetization in the recording layer is inverted by using the energy of the interfacial magnetic wall. Recording and reproducing are carried out by using a recording/reproducing device having a magnetic field generating means from which the maximum magnetic field Hmax satisfying Hmax<Hini can be generated in the range between the recording temperature and reproducing temperature.
