The access system breaks up words to be recorded in memory and stores them in memory in conjunction with a block error code. The latter allows faulty memory bits to be detected and the corresponding data stored in an additional area. The invention allows faulty memory modules to be exchanged without switching off the system, i.e. the module is isolated and the data stored elsewhere, a replacement module can then be inserted. The invention also relates to a method for correcting and copying the contents of a faulty memory module to an additional memory module.
