PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersion compensating optical fiber, capable of compensating for the wavelength dispersion of a 1.3μm single-mode optical fiber over the whole region of 1.53-1.63μm. SOLUTION: The dispersion compensating optical fiber is formed, where the wavelength dispersion is <=-50 ps/nm/km at a wavelength of 1.55μm, a negative dispersion slope is provided over the whole wavelength region of 1.53-1.63μm, a cut-off wavelength substantially becoming single-mode propagation is provided, an effective core cross section is >=20μm2, and moreover the absolute value of the wavelength dispersion of the whole lines is <=15 ps/nm/ km, when the wavelength dispersion of the 1.3μm single-mode optical fiber which is an object to be compensated is compensated. |
