PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for accurately and selectively detecting plural objects such as human figures having curved forms in an image without requiring a large quantity of computation. SOLUTION: An edge strength and a direction are calculated from a target image, a link-shaped model is set with each of points having the edge strength exceeding a threshold as a reference, this model is deformed within the range of angle/length determined corresponding to the form features of a detection target and when the edge direction at an end point satisfies conditions for comprising a contour and the edge strength is maximum, while defining that end point as a new reference point, similar searches are successively repeated prescribed times or as long as the conditions are satisfied so that the object including the form features on the contour can be detected. |
