PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for forming electron source capable of diminishing variation per hour of electron emitting characteristics arising from the Na diffusion caused by the heat treatment in tow case of forming electron emitting elements by means of a Na-contained substrate and capable of minimizing the charging-up after the driving. SOLUTION: The substrate for forming the electron source is provided with an insulated material film on the surface of the substrate itself on which electron emitting elements are laid. The insulated material layer possesses a plural number of partially exposed metal oxide particles on its surface.
