PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which is excellent in electro-optical properties such as response time and the like and a liquid crystal medium for the display. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal medium contains dielectrically negative compounds of one or more compounds of general formula I and one or more compounds of general formula II. The liquid crystal display contains the medium, represented by formulas I and II (wherein R11 is a 1-7C alkoxy or a 2-7C alkenyloxy, or a 1-7C alkyl in the case; R12, R21, and R22 are each a 1-7C alkyl or alkoxy, or a 2-7C alkenyloxy; Z21 and Z22 are each -CH2-CH2-, -CH=CH-, -C≡C-, -COO- or a single bond; L21 and L22 are both C-F, or alternatively N and the other is C-F; and I is 0 or 1.). |
