PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup suitable for a thin profile and capable of prescribing the lowest point of a lens holder with high precision. SOLUTION: A through-hole 16b with a size enabling a lens holder 3 to easily pass through it is provided to face the bottom face of the lens holder 3, on the base member 16 of an actuator 4; on the optical chassis 1, a stopper face 1a is provided to face the bottom face of the lens holder 3 through the thorough-hole 16b; and the stopper face 1a is designed to regulate the allowable moving quantity f the lens holder 3 to the opposite side of a disk along a focusing direction. As a result, only the optical chassis 1 is below the lowest point of the lens holder 3, thereby realizing a thin profile. In addition, even if the lens holder 3 is in a nonparallel twisted positional relation with the base member 16, the lens holder 3 and the optical chassis 1 are set in a parallel positional relation with each other by adjusting the optical axis of the objective lens 2. Accordingly, the stopper face 1a provided on the optical chassis 1 is prevented from tilting in relation to the bottom face of the lens holder 3, thus eliminating possibility of causing an error at the lowest point of the lens holder 3.
