The installation (10) has a submersible pod (14), connected to lifting and descending units (16,18,20). There is an assembly of respiratory units (24) carried by the pod and is disassociable from it when the pod is immersed. Each respiratory unit comprises a helmet (26) mounted on a diving jacket (28), adapted to be positioned on the thorax of the user, and equipped with a conduit for feeding air to the helmet from the surface.
