PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synchronous optical reproducer for performing intensity modulation and phase modulation, in which an operation is simple with the minimum of hardware components. SOLUTION: The phase modulation is performed after the intensity modulation by a crossed kerr effect in kerr fiber. A clock used for the phase modulation is obtained by throwing in continuous wavelength to an intensity modulator. Then, this reproducer includes a multiplexer 2 for combining continuous light with a transmission signal, the intensity modulator 6 for modulating the transmission signal and the continuous light and the kerr fiber 10 for performing intensity modulation of the transmission signal with crossed phase modulation and for performing phase modulation of the continuous light. The reproducer is applied in particular to a wavelength division multiplex transmission system. |
