PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semi-open-deck-type cylinder block having a coolant passage communicating from a water jacket formed on a cylinder head to a water jacket of the cylinder block through the inside of a partition between cylinder bores. SOLUTION: Ribs 6 as connection parts are formed between a projection 4a of the outer wall 4 of the cylinder block and a partition 3a of a cylinder liner 3. Each of the top surfaces of the ribs 6 is provided with an opening 9 of a coolant passage. The coolant passage communicates from the opening 9 to the water jacket 5 formed on the cylinder block 2 through the inside of the partition 3a. Thus, a clearance can be formed between the opening 9 of the coolant passage and the cylinder bore 2, and a gasket is arranged in the clearance to seal between the cylinder bore 2 and the opening 9 of the coolant passage.
