The wind turbine has the turbine (2) housed inside a circular tower (4). The tower has concentric tracks (6) that support vertical vanes (8-10) round its periphery, and the vanes can be adjusted to direct wind onto the turbine or to block strong winds. The position of the vanes is controlled by displacement of their supporting tracks by an electric motor responding to measured wind speed.
