PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problem that, when head movement is controlled by an output from a linear sensor, synchronization is impossible when the state of a reference position signal is inverted exceeding±90 degrees. SOLUTION: Detection outputs of a phase A and a phase B are obtained from a head position detecting means, and the DC level of the phase A and the DC level of the phase B at a preceding track position are utilized. In all the areas from section (1) to section (4), the combination of the phase A and the phase B differs in state. Therefore, a reference track area can surely be detected by recognizing in which section the reference position signal is inverted.
