PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a two-phase electric rotating machine that is easy to start and involves less cogging torque and torque ripples, at low cost without adoption of any special shape or addition of any special member. SOLUTION: The two-phase electric rotating machine comprises an armature core 1 having (m) (m is a positive integer) pieces of salient poles 2, two-phase coils 3 wound around the salient poles 2, and a magnet 5 of 2n poles (n is a positive integer) placed opposite to the salient poles 2. In the electric rotating machine, (m) is an odd number not less than 7, or may be an multiple of 3.
