PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an epoxy resin composition slight in the production of toxic halogen compound when burned, high in flame retardancy and capable of giving the corresponding cured product with excellent physical properties. SOLUTION: This epoxy resin composition is obtained by compounding (1) a polyepoxy compound of the general formula (I), wherein n is 0.1-20; Z is a direct bond, 1-4C alkylindene group or SO2; X is H or a glycidyl group, provided that at least 10% of X being a glycidyl group and (2) a phosphorus- containing compound of the general formula (II) wherein X1 to X8 are each H, a halogen atom, alkyl or aryl.
