摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection liquid crystal display device which is easily made thin and light in weight, is excellent in display quality and is able to use external light in combination with illumination. SOLUTION: The reflection liquid crystal display device is provided with an illuminator (51) on one or more side faces of a reflection liquid crystal display panel (1), which is at least equipped with a liquid crystal cell comprising a liquid crystal (31) held between a viewer's side substrate (21) having a transparent substrate (21), a transparent layer (22) with a refractive index lower than that of the substrate and a transparent electrode (24) and a rear side substrate (43) having an electrode (42) with their electrode sides placed opposite to each other and a reflection layer (42) on the side of the rear side substrate, further a structure with repeated optical path converting slopes (A1) outside the viewer's side substrate with an inclined angle at 35-48 deg. from a reference surface of the substrate and an optical path controlling layer (11) with a refractive index higher than that of the transparent layer with a lower refractive index. Consequently, incident light from the side faces is used for the liquid crystal display by transmitting it to the rear side and efficiently changing the optical path of the transmitted light to the panel viewer's direction via the optical path controlling layer and the reflection layer.
