PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connection controlling method and private branch exchange capable of avoiding the invalid hold of a trunk circuit used and suspended for an emergency call in a private branch exchange. SOLUTION: When the emergency call is sent from the extension 1 of the private branch exchange, an extension number corresponding to the trunk number of the trunk circuit 6 used for the emergency call is written in an emergency call information memory 83 and suspended in order to deal with a callback from the emergency call destination. When the trunk suspending the trunk number in the emergency call information memory 83 has an incoming call, a connection control part 81 determines whether it is the emergency call or a general call, and performs the connection control with reference to the emergency number and a caller number in the emergency call number memory 82. Besides, transmission to other extensions from the extension 1 suspending the extension number in the emergency call information memory 83 or the transmission of the general call is regulated.
