Detecting material in samples (A) of avian origin, comprising amplification of DNA (I) specific for the genome of birds in an extract of the sample, where the birds are especially anseriforms, galliforms or struthioniforms, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) oligonucleotides (ON) for use in the new process; (2) primer pairs of ON for use in the new process; and (3) DNA fragments (II) produced as amplicons by using ON.
