The device comprises a means for contacting a more committed cell with a retrodifferentiation means or an agent that causes the more committed cell to retrodifferentiate into an undifferentiated cell. The device comprises a chamber, means for introducing into the chamber a cell population including committed cells, means for introducing into the chamber a retrodifferentiation means that are capable of causing a committed cell to retrodifferentiate into an undifferentiated cell or an agent that causes the committed cell to retrodifferentiate into an undifferentiated cell, and incubation means for incubating the committed cells in the presence of the retrodifferentiation means such that a committed cell retrodifferentiates into an undifferentiated cell. Independent claims are also included for methods of preparing an undifferentiated cell.
