The sliver drawing unit for a spinning station has a sliver condensing zone where the suction channel (17) is positioned as far as possible to the start clamping line (13) and the lower cylinder (10) without contact, and without deflecting the sliver (5) for condensing at the wedge gap (27) between the pressure roller (12) and lower cylinder. The lower cylinder gives a sufficient cleaning gap against the suction channel between spinning stations (1). The sliver condensing zone at a drawing unit has a lower cylinder at the entry which is machined to have a smaller diameter between the spinning stations. The lower cylinder diameter at the spinning stations is 27 mm, and it has a diameter of 24 mm between the spinning stations. The cleaning gap has a clear width of at least 1.2 mm. The lower cylinder holds the sliver transport belt (15) at a point opposite a ventilated zone (29) of the suction channel.
