A light-permeable web-like recording material has between the substrate and the recording layer a pigmented intermediate layer which is used to form markings in different local thicknesses. Also included is an Independent claim for production of the recording material by coating the intermediate layer onto the substrate while forming depressions in it with a counter-roller.
