The internal valve means in the telescopic leg of a hydro-pneumatic fork, which control the passage of the liquid from one chamber to the other chamber of the telescopic leg during the operation of the fork, include a slide valve of suitable type (44-51, 145), preferably of rotating type, operated by an ON-OFF control (48) placed on the upper end of the stem of the leg, by means of which the slide valve can be rapidly switched over from a release condition that permits the extension of the stem, to a locked condition, in which the stem can only retract into the sheath (1) and remain in the axial position in which it is brought from time to time brought, without being able to accomplish the reverse extension movement, in order to avoid pitching movements of the bicycle, particularly during uphill stretches.
