VEHICLE BACKING SUPPORT APPARATUS

A vehicle backing support apparatus for supporting the driver of a vehicle to back the car while steering the vehicle to park it by displaying steering support guide enabling the driver to readily grasp the timing and amount of steering and the amount of back. When a vehicle starts turning, a left-right wheel rotational speed difference sensing means (120) measures the difference between the rotational speeds of the left and right wheels. If the difference increases over a predetermined value, the vehicle is judged to start making a turn. The angular velocity measured by a yaw rate sensor (118) is accumulated from the start of the turn as a yawing angle. When the vehicle stops and if a shift lever (5) is operated to a reverse gear position, the then yawing angle is measured as a turning angle from the start of the turn. An image processor (8) displays a parallel parking guide line and a vehicle space mark diagonally according to the turning angle on the screen of a monitor (4).
