A method of and apparatus for washing the posterior parts of a human body using a hand-held bidet spray head (22) is provided. The hand-held bidet apparatus includes a main unit (M, M') including at least first and second containers (1, 2) for containing appropriate body washing fluids. A control unit is configured to control the operation of the bidet apparatus via a computer (15) which controls the opening and closing of a solenoid valve (26) connected to a water inlet (10) based upon outputs from a water level switch. The main unit (M') may also include an air pump (32) and a dryer unit (33). The computer (15) also controls the turning on and off of a heating element (12), for heating water in a water reservoir (2), in response to signals from a temperature sensor (17). A system of conduits (21) couples or connects the spray head (22) with the first and second containers (1, 2). The system of conduits (21) is configured to allow fluid to flow from the first and second containers (1, 2) to the spray head (22). the bidet apparatus includes a metering valve (9) which is configured to regulate the flow of the fluid from the first and second containers (1, 2) to the spray head (22) based upon a fluid metering signal received from the control unit.
