A traction device is disclosed which is portable, operable without the presence of a health professional and which can apply tension to a user's body to stretch muscles, joints, vertebrae, etc. or combination thereof. The device includes a foldable perimeter frame (1), a support (17) for the head, a support (21a, b) for the neck, a support (37) for the shoulders, a support (40) for the buttocks, a support (45) for the ankles and a support (43a) for the feet. An optional feature is the provision of one or two hand holds (80,81). The traction force is supplied by a sliding and pivoting weight (62). The application of the traction force is electrically controlled (57).
