An electric motor capable of achieving a high efficiency and providing an excellent startability, wherein a rotor (10) having projected parts (10a) installed projectedly along the outer periphery of a magnetic body disk at equal intervals and a disk (40) formed in a magnetic body disk are fixedly connected to each other at an interval so as to sandwich a permanent magnet (20) through a rotating shaft (60) and 12 bar-like electromagnets (30) are disposed around the periphery of the rotor and disk so as to be bridged acro ss the outer peripheral edges of the rotor (10) and the disk (40), the rotor (1 0) and disk (40) are supported rotatably on the inside of the electromagnets (3 0) and, when a specified electromagnet (30) is energized, the magnetic flux circulating between the magnetic poles of the permanent magnets (20) is converged to the excited electromagnet through the disk (40), whereby the magnetic flux acting so as to arrest the rotor (10) in nonenergized state is eliminated easily so as to assure a smooth starting, and such a magnetic interaction as obstructing the rotation is also prevented.
