The device has a stationary inner pin (3) with a conical slope (3a). A stationary centering bolt (2) concentric to the pin has an axial slot (2a). An expansion device between the pin and the centering bolt has at least two fingers (1) and clamp noses (1c) in one plane radially and offset peripherally. A support flange (8) surrounds the pin, the centering bolt and the finger and supports the work piece to be clamped on its upper side. The fingers slide axially relative to the centering bolt and the pin. A conical inner slope (2b) at the inner wall of the centering ball has a taper that corresponds to a second conical slope (1b) of the finger. A first conical slope (1a) at the inside of the finger matches the taper of the conical slope (3a) of the pin. When the finger moves axially, the conical slope of the finger slides over the conical slope of the pint to spread them apart and the clamp nose of the finger moves radially outwards and is pushed through the slit, to grip or clamp the tool.
