The connector for the pipe (1) has a saddle shaped grip (2) which partially encloses the pipe and which has a stub (4) into which the connecting pipe (12) is located. Integral electric heating elements (7,8) in the joint areas melt the plastics and form a simple thermal weld. One heating element (8) has a spiral shape about the connecting holes in the pipe while the other element (7) has a cylindrical shape around the connecting stub. Both elements are in series and are linked to two contacts (10,11) to which the welding power connections are made. The wire elements are either coated with plastics or are positioned in grooves. <IMAGE>
