<p>The invention relates to a method for suspending solid or liquid, fat-containing or fatty impurities, especially for binding liquid impurities floating in the water or seawater and/or in the shores and located on the plumage or fur of animals, especially oil, crude oil or the like or impurities containing soot on the surfaces of buildings, tunnels, tarpaulins or the like. In order to remove said impurities, an agent containing at least an ester of lower alcohols such as fatty acid methyl ester and surface-active agents is applied or sprayed on the impurities in concentrated form or diluted in water. The agent and the impurities and water then form a milky, turbid suspension. Said suspension continuos to mix with the water or seawater while the oil is being removed from the water as a result of movement, especially as a result of the movement caused by the natural waves of the water or seawater or by the wind. Depending on the force of gravity, said suspension floats on the water or seawater or sinks to the bottom. When removing oil from the shores or solid impurities on surfaces, the suspension is rinsed off with water.
