<p>In a first aspect, the invention provides a method of forming a web (1) for use in a structural member (2), said method comprising the steps of forming a strip of sheet material (3), forming a series of notches (4) along longitudinal edges (5) of the strip and thereby defining generally transverse fold lines adjacent the respective notches (4), and folding the strip to predetermine degrees along the respective fold lines (6), thereby to form a web (1) adapted for use in the structural member (2). In a second aspect, the invention provides a flange section including a generally U-shaped channel section, and at least one substantially enclosed box section disposed on one side of the channel section, the flange section being adapted for use as, or as part of, a structural member. In a third aspect, the invention provides a composite structural beam, including a top or bottom flange or chord formed from a flange section as described, and a web formed in accordance with the method as described.</p> |
