A pesticidal composition contains an optionally etherified and/or esterified polyglycerol compound (I) as adjuvant. A pesticidal preparation contains a polyglycerol compound of formula (I). (N.B. The formula given in the specification lacks the CH to which the OR3 group is attached; in the specification the OR3 is attached to one of the adjacent CH2 groups). R1-R3 = H; 1-30C alkyl, optionally sulfonated 2-30C alkenyl, phenyl or naphthyl (all optionally substituted by 1-3 of 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy); -(CH2)y-NR4R5; -(CH2)y-OH; -(AO)zH; SO3X; PO3X2; C(R)2COOX; -CO-R7-COOX; -C(R)2-C(R)2-C(R)2-N(R2)2; -C(R)2-C(R)2-C(R)2-N((AO)z)2H; -(CH2CH((AO)zH)CH2O)n-R2; or -CO-Ra; R = H or Me; Ra = H; 1-30C alkyl, optionally sulfonated 2-30C alkenyl, phenyl or naphthyl (all optionally substituted by 1-3 of 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy); -CH(NR4R5)-(CH2)x-R6; -(CH2)y-NR4R5; or -(CH2)y-OH; n = 4-40 (preferably 5-20); R4, R5 = H, 1-10C alkyl, optionally sulfonated 2-30C alkenyl or -(AO)zH; R6 = H, CONH2, COOH, SMe or NH2; R7 = 1-10C alkylene or optionally sulfonated 2-30C alkenylene; X = H, Na, K, 1/2 Ca or N(R8)4; R8 = H or 1-10C (preferably 1-4C) alkyl; x = 0-15; y = 4-6; z = 0-30 (preferably 0-5); A = -C2H4- or -C3H6-. An Independent claim is included for a method for increasing the biological activity of a pesticide, by incorporating the pesticide in a (I)-containing preparation as above.
