The invention provides an adjustment mechanism (100) and methods for adjusting the alignment of a powered cylindrical brush (10, 11) mounted to a surface maintenance vehicle (22) relative to a surface (76) to be maintained or cleaned by the vehicle. The device (100) is preferably disposed upon the idle-side of a powered rotating cylindrical brush assembly (10, 11) and the adjustment preferably occurs via use of an eccentric cam member (24) providing a range of motion, or pivot location, through which or about which the idler-side mounting location of the cylindrical brush may be adjusted to improve contact with the surface. Another aspect of the invention is to allow a single operator to perform brush taper adjustments without disassembly of any connecting components for operating the rotating brush assembly during cleaning operations, including even the side covers (58) or other brush mounting components and any drive gear associated thereto.
