The system for determining the presence of a movable object in the vicinity of at least one personal computer (PC) has at least a first (14) and a second (16) acoustic transducer, each connected to at least one PC (10). A transmitter circuit (12) is connected to at least one computer and the control-input data is relayed to at least one first acoustic transducer for the purpose of generating acoustic energy in the vicinity of the at least one PC. A reception circuit is connected to at least one PC and relays the received signal input data to at least the second acoustic transducer, the input data representing audio signals received in the vicinity of at least one computer. A detection circuit (20) is connected to at least one PC and analyses the received signal output data and the control input data to determine whether a movable object was detected.
