The floating pontoon has a four sided floating body encompassed by side walls, a bottom plate and a top plate. The bottom plate has dimensions which match those of a commercially available freight container and its height corresponds to the height of freight container or a fraction of this height. The height of the floating body has half, a third or quarter the height of a freight container. The corners of the floating body have container corner fittings. The floating body on its outer edges has container corner fittings which are arranged to allow interlocking connection with another similar type floating body.
