<p>A method of joining a first component to a second component comprises the step of resistance heating the first component and allowing it to cool joined to the second component. The resistance of at least a part of the first component is measured, and the measured value of resistance is compared, eg via a comparator, with a list of stored resistance values, the comparison resulting in the selection of an identity of the first component when a given degree of correspondence between the measured resistance value and a stored resistance value occurs. The selection of the identity of the first component results in the application of a power supply profile associated with the identity for the first component. Preferably the method is used with electrofusion apparatus for forming pipe joints, for instance reducers, tees, tapping tees, elbows or saddles.</p> |
