PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving unit of a motor-driven rolling stock, which is light and compact and especially easy to move a rolling stock when the power is off. SOLUTION: The driving unit 54 of the motor-driven rolling stock has a sun gear 58a which rotates with a motor output shaft 57a as a single piece, a planetary gear 58b which engages with the sun gear 58a and a ring gear 58c which engages with the planetary gear 58b. It is also provided with a planetary gear device 58 which is configured such that an arm plate 58d which supports the planetary gear 58b rotates at a prescribed speed reduction rate with the rotation of a motor 57. A changeover mechanism 65 is provided not only to support the ring gear 58c such that it can rotate relatively to a housing 63 but also to prevent or permit the relative rotation of the ring gear 58c. |
