PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically change the feeding condition of sheet according to the kind of sheets so that the sheets can be surely separately fed. SOLUTION: This sheet feeding device 200 comprises a sheet housing means 3 liftably having a sheet loading means 5 loaded with sheets and attachable to and detachable from a sheet receiving part 6; a judging means 24 for judging the kind of sheets in the installation of the sheet housing means to the sheet receiving part; a lifting means 4 for raising and lowering the sheet loading means in the installation of the sheet housing means to the sheet receiving part; a sheet feeding means 7 for feeding the sheets from the sheet housing means; a sheet separating means 20 for separating the sheets fed by the sheet feeding means; a positionally adjustable sheet detecting means 28 for detecting the sheets stacked on the sheet stacking means; and a detecting position regulating means 27 for regulating the position of the sheet detecting means to the sheet separating means according to the kind of sheets judged by the judging means.
