PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a labor-saving apparatus which cuts the frame of a tatami mat and sews a tatami facing to the tatami mat, easing the labor for cutting the frame of a tatami mat and sewing a tatami facing and which needs a small area to be fixed on in order to serve the table face of the apparatus as the space for tatami operations. SOLUTION: This apparatus has a cutting device 2 fixed on the sewing-machine side or the other end of the base and a moving frame 61 which moves on the base. The moving frame 61 has a holding device 66 to hold a tatami mat and a turn table 65 which goes up and down and rotates the tatami mat by 180 degrees. The apparatus also has a first encoder 80 to detect the distance between the moving frame and the cutting device, a second encoder 29 to detect the cutting angle of the cutting device and a control device to control the position and the cutting angle of the cutting device according to the outputs of the encoders and the pre-inputted data of specifications of a tatami. The apparatus also has a cutter 24 for mending the warps of a tatami frame and cutting it in a predetermined size, a tatami-facing chuck device 4 for giving tension to the tatami facing, a mat holding member 35 for fixing the tatami mat with the tatami facing while holding the tension on the tatami facing and a sewing device 3 having a sewing machine 31 for sewing the tatami facing on the frame of the tatami mat.
