PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the cushioning property of a seat back from being impaired in a chair with a head rest and to smoothly operate the upward movement of the head rest positioned at the lower limit. SOLUTION: The seat back 4 is formed by mounting a seat back cushion 7 in front of a seat back frame 5, and a mounting part for mounting the lower parts of a lateral pair of vertical rods 16a for supporting the head rest 10 in a vertically movable manner is provided at the nearly center part of an upper lateral rod 9 in the seat back frame 5. The upper face of a cover 23 for covering the mounting part is provided with recessed parts 24a, 25a forming a clearance 26 allowing the insertion of a hand, between the lower face of the head rest 10 and the upper face of the cover 23 when the head rest 10 is lowered to the lower limit.
