PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a phenoxyphosphazene-based compound capable of not only providing a synthetic resin with properties such as flame retardance, thermal stability, moldability, processability, etc., but also controlling discoloration of a synthetic resin. SOLUTION: This method for modifying the phenoxyphosphazene-based compound is characterized in that the phenoxyphosphazene-based compound is (1) treated with at least one kind of adsorbent selected from activated carbon, silica gel, activated alumina, activated clay, synthetic zeolite and a polymer adsorbent or (2) reacted with at least one kind of reagent selected from a metal hydride complex compound, hydrazine, a hypochlorite, a thiosulfate, a dialkyl sulfate, an orthoester, a diazoalkane, a lactone, an alkanesultone, an epoxy compound and a hydrogen peroxide solution.
