PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording method whereby nearly circular dots can be properly recorded by means of dot diameter gradation of a wide range by properly varying a diameter of circular dots with the use of a thermal head having heating elements each formed smaller in a vertical scanning direction than in a horizontal scanning direction. SOLUTION: A duty cycle of intermittent energization is controlled to gradually decrease as the number of times of the intermittent energization increases to conform to an aspect ratio of a size ratio of the heating element 1 in the vertical scanning direction to in the horizontal scanning direction.
