PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide reinforcing structure for a rear gate opening, impeding the distortion of a vehicle body caused by the deformation of the rear gate opening while preventing the deformation of a rear gate by increasing lateral rigidity without making a large change in the structure of an angular part of the rear gate. SOLUTION: In this reinforcing structure for the rear gate opening of an automobile with an angular part formed by the overlap of a rear rail and the end part of a pillar which are structural members of the automobile, closed cross section is formed by a rail rear upper which is an outer side member of the rear rail, a reinforcing pillar which is an outer side member of a pillar, and a roof panel that covers the rail rear upper and the reinforcing pillar. In the closed cross section, the whole end part of a reinforcing member covering almost the whole upper face of the rail rear upper in the closed cross section and formed being bent so as to have cross-sectional shape almost similar to that of the side end part of the rail rear upper, is fixed to the rail rear upper.
