PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten time for detecting gain abnormality in vehicle behavior control. SOLUTION: This device and method are provided for controlling the behavior of a vehicle provided with a hydraulic unit having a main hydraulic circuit for connecting a master cylinder to a wheel cylinder through an inlet valve, and an auxiliary hydraulic circuit for connecting the wheel cylinder to the main hydraulic circuit through an outlet valve, an auxiliary reservoir and a hydraulic pump; a wheel speed sensor for obtaining the speed of each wheel; a steering sensor for obtaining a steering angle; a vehicle rotation sensor for obtaining the rotation of the vehicle; and an electronic control unit for controlling the hydraulic unit. The device is provided with a gain correcting device for correcting the gain of the vehicle rotation sensor in a traveling state to obtain a gain correction value, and a storage device for storing the gain correction value. The gain correction value stored in the storage means is used as the initial value of gain correction to control the behavior of the vehicle.
