PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a thin casting piece having superior surface characteristics capable of preventing cracks on a surface of a casting piece caused by entrainment of scum and also preventing occurrence of scum flaws. SOLUTION: In a casting method of a thin casting piece by means of a pair of drum type continuous casting method in which molten metal is poured to a pouring basin portion formed by a part of a peripheral surface of a cooling drum and a side bank, and further in which a thin casting piece is continuously cast while cooling and solidifying the molten metal by means of a rotating peripheral surface of the cooling drum, a coating agent making surface tension of melting steel weak is applied to a drum surface. Further, when the coating agent is not applied to an end portion of the drum, the thin casting piece having more superior surface characteristics can be produced. The coating agent preferably contains an element making surface tension of melting steel weak and/or a compound of elements making surface tension of melting steel weak.
