PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an agent useful for preventing or ameliorating hyperuricemia or gout, for human, especially one having a risk of gout or a gout patient. SOLUTION: An agent containing a clinically effective amount of chitosan is administered to a person having a risk of gout crisis or a gout patient. Especially the agent is useful for a person of subclinical hyperuricemia having >=7.0 mg/dl serum uric acid value.
