PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medicine and composition for ameliorating content of lipid in the epidermis, and enhancing the flexibility of the skin. SOLUTION: An ascorbic acid derivative of the formula (I) wherein, R1 is a hydrogen atom or the like; R2 is a sugar residue or a COR5 group [R5 is a (substituted) linear, cyclic or branched (un)saturated 1-20C hydrocarbon or the like]; R3 and R4 are same or different and each a hydrogen atom or the COR5 group, or form an isopropylidene group by bonding to each other) or a salt of the derivative is used as the medicine.
