PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing acrylic acid, by which the highly pure acrylic acid can profitably be produced from crude acrylic acid obtained by a catalytic gas phase oxidation method, while sufficiently removing impurities such as aldehydes, ketones and maleic acid compounds and simultaneously inhibiting the production of sludge. SOLUTION: This method for producing the acrylic acid, characterized by subjecting an acrylic acid-containing oxidation product solution obtained by a catalytic gas phase oxidation to an azeotropic dehydration treatment and then distilling the obtained crude acrylic acid in the coexistence with a hydrazine compound, while controlling the total concentration of maleic acid and maleic anhydride in the crude acrylic acid to <=2,000 ppm.
