PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for automatically cleaning a cylindrical work whereby the cleaning operation is mechanized and automated so that, after a cylindrical work is subjected to a surface treatment, etc., a liquid attached to the surface of the work is removed in such a degree as not to stain around a liquid vessel; the cleaning time can be shortened; and the productivity can be improved. SOLUTION: The method and apparatus are characterized in that, in this method for automatically cleaning the surface of a cylindrical work, a scraper is pushed against the side of the work, which is ascending while revolving, to scrape down a liquid attached to the side of the work and then a wiper having a liquid absorption capability is pushed against the side of the work, which is ascending while revolving, the absorb and wipe away the liquid attached to the side of the work.
