PURPOSE:To stably track a moving object by storing previously a background reference picture, and detecting the moving object such as the face area of a person, etc., from difference between the background reference picture and an input picture. CONSTITUTION:A background memory 101, a difference picture generating means 102, a binary picture generating means 103, a center point initial value arithmetic means 104, a frame segmenting means 105, a means 106 to obtain a center-of-gravity point, and a face area segmenting means 107 are provided. Then, since a background/person effective difference block picture is generated by obtaining the difference between the background reference picture stored previously and the input picture, and the moving object is detected from the background/person effective difference block picture, a moving area can be detected even in the case that the moving object such as the person, etc., hardly moves. Thus, the face area of the person can stably be detected, and the moving object such as the face area of the person can stably be tracked. |
