PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for spreading an optical fiber cable using air pressure are provided to lay the optical fiber cable smoothly by adding a viscous force of compressed air flowing through a pipe line spread underground in a high speed and a pushing force of a mechanical sending apparatus. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises an optical fiber cable drum(10) wound with a multi-core optical fiber cable, a spreader(30) which unties the multi-core optical fiber cable wound around the optical fiber drum and spreads in a pipeline(20) spread underground, and a compressor(40) blowing compressed air into the pipeline. The optical cable drum is constituted to make the delivery and the installation of the multi-core optical cable easy, and the multi-core optical cable includes a number of tubes where optical fibers are not inserted in the inside. Therefore, after spreading the multi-core optical cable in the pipeline, a fiber bundle is pushed into the tube by air pressure method.
